The team at Cheltenham Racecourse are very proud of the impact that we have in Gloucestershire and it is therefore fitting for us to be sponsoring at this year’s Gloucestershire Business Awards. The county is full of amazing brands, organisations and start-ups all of which the team work with on a close basis; whether it be selling a table in a restaurant on a raceday to a Stroud law firm or the maintenance department using the services of a local hardware shop in Cheltenham.
Recently the racecourse has undergone a £45million redevelopment, which was finished in November 2015. We are delighted that much of this investment was spent within Gloucestershire and the south west region of the UK, with key contractors being employed from the local area, including the main contractor, Kier Central Office, based in Cheltenham and Roberts Limbricks, the architects who designed the stunning grandstand, based in Gloucester.
Cheltenham Racecourse is situated in Prestbury on the outskirts of Cheltenham. The Home of Jump Racing, Cheltenham Racecourse is the venue for the world’s most famous and prestigious Jump meeting, The Festival, which takes place in March every year. It has recently been estimated by the University of Gloucestershire that, during the four days of The Festival, over £100m is brought into the Gloucestershire economy by the 260,000 racegoers. The week is one of the most important periods of trade for local hotels, pubs, transport companies and other suppliers and brings the attention of the world to Cheltenham.
Cheltenham is part of The Jockey Club, the largest commercial group in the sport, and is Governed by Royal Charter; every penny The Jockey Club makes it puts back into British racing.
