Our Sponsors
The University of Gloucestershire has been celebrating the sporting life for nearly two centuries.
And after 150 years of training teachers and building the foundations of physical education and school sport in the county, the staff and students of today continue to pursue their passion for sport on and off the pitch, with our proud traditions continuing to flourish for all levels and interests.
As coaches, referees and volunteers, students are forging thriving partnerships with the local community and helping people of all ages get back on track through rehabilitation programmes in partnership with the NHS.
Whether at home or away, the University is keen to nurture and celebrate sporting ambitions and success, and this is why we are delighted to support Gloucestershire Media’s Diamond Jubilee Sports Awards 2012.
Further afield, the award-winning Sport Malawi programme is embracing development through sport, while in Gloucestershire the University formed part of a consortium giving a warm welcome to the London 2012 Malawi Olympic team.
Providing new opportunities is at the heart of our UNIversal Sport initiative encouraging physical activity from archery to Zumba, while partnership projects with external providers are developing health and well-being through play, in the workplace and beyond.
The University’s Sports Team works with the Students’ Union (SU) to support teams and clubs competing through the British University and College Sport (BUCS) programme and with SU sport societies including everything from athletics to American football there are plenty of opportunities for students to enjoy.
Off the pitch, our innovative sports courses are giving students the skills they need for working world, while the Exercise and Sport Research centre conducts research in a wide range of sport, exercise and health related areas with more than 80 staff and research students on board.
Times may have changed, but we still strive to play our part in Gloucestershire’s sporting life, promoting sport, well-being and opportunities for all, and a proud supporter of the Gloucestershire Media’s Diamond Jubilee Sports Awards 2012.
Brewin Dolphin celebrates its 250th anniversary this year having traced its origins to a founding firm of the London Stock Exchange in 1762. With 40 offices around the UK and Channel Islands we manage funds on behalf of over 130,000 private clients.
We take our role as investment managers very seriously, with years of hard work and dedication to gain the qualifications, expertise and experience to advise our clients. From time to time we face turbulent market conditions which can be demanding and challenging, but this is really a snapshot of life in general and as you move through life you learn lessons through these experiences.
We see sport as very similar and that playing sport can be a great education. It takes time to learn and to improve, but along the way it teaches you how wonderful it is to win but also how painful it is to lose. It brings people together in opposition, as a team, but ultimately in friendship and respect and it requires years of dedication and sacrifice to be the very best at what you do and to ultimately go on to inspire others.
Our sponsorship of the Brewin Dolphin Cheltenham Cricket Festival is not all about business, far from it. Sponsorship secures the only first class cricket to be played in the county and therefore keeps the game accessible to the children of Gloucestershire. We are working hard with Gloucestershire County Cricket Club and the other sponsors to make the Festival bigger and better each year, with much more to engage the youth of today and introduce them to a marvellous game, a sport that we in this country are currently rated as one of the best in the world. Hopefully by our involvement with the Festival we give the kids the opportunity to watch the cricketing heroes of today in the hope that it will inspire them to go on to be the Ian Botham or Stuart Broad of the future.
Brewin Dolphin Cheltenham is proud to sponsor the Professional Sports Personality of the Year category and would like to congratulate everyone who has been nominated.
