Food & Drink Business of the Year

This award will go to a Food or Drink business which shows real commitment to Food & Farming. Judges will take into account use of local produce, local suppliers, innovative products and services.


Best Drinks Producer

Awarded to the best drinks producer of alcoholic or non-alcoholic beverages. The two criteria are provenance and taste. Does the product taste good? Are some of the ingredients sourced or grown locally? If they are not local, is the production process based locally? How is the product marketed?


Best Food Producer

Awarded to the best food producer, producing the best fresh, processed or packaged food which may be sold from the farm, through a farm shop, farmers market, local butcher, local greengrocer or supermarket. The judges will be looking at provenance. This product must be primarily produced in the South West with ingredients from the region.


Best Independent Cafe or Tea Room

Awarding the best independent café, tea room or snack bar in the South West. We are looking for a café, tea room or snack bar that stands apart from others with particular emphasis on locally sourced ingredients. You may be located in the high street or serve a village community.


Best Local Food Retailer

We’re interested in an imaginative initiative that’s changing the way good quality food and drink is being sourced and sold. It could be a wholesaler, website, farm shop or independent retailer that’s transforming your access to great local produce with an original idea. The Store has to be at the heart of its community, selling the farm’s own produce and other local food products to regulars and visitors.


Best Food Pub or Restaurant

This category recognises the best pub or restaurant food in the south west that draws customers because of the excellence of its food, with particular emphasis on locally-sourced seasonal ingredients. We are looking for a pub or restaurant that stands apart from others and that can demonstrate an innovative and winning menu.


Best Pub

This category recognises the best pub that draws customers because of its excellent drink and atmosphere, with particular emphasis on locally-sourced beverages. We want to celebrate a pub at the heart of the community.


Best Food / Farmers Market Award

This brand new award is here to recognise the best food market or farmers market in the south west. Judges will be looking for varied and knowledgeable stallholders, an array of local produce and an event which really engages the public and makes them think about buying local.


Family Farming Business

Family farming businesses are so key to this area, which is why we have introduced this brand new category for 2017.

The Judges will be looking for traditional family farms which are clearly businesses, not just ways of life, and which have embraced the need for quality management carried out on business lines and are also conscious of today’s requirements for conservation, diversification and good husbandry.


Best Farmer

This award recognises all types of farmers who have shown vision in developing their business to meet the requirements of the market. In doing so he or she have developed the herd/crop and farm, showing attention to detail at every level including nutrition, fertility, forage and grassland management, rigorous standards on animal welfare, feeding and veterinary care, nitrate vulnerable zone regulations, environmental stewardship, water quality, investment and dedication.


Young Farmer of the Year

This award is for a farmer 30 or under as of 1st January 2017 and making a success of managing a distinct area of the family farming business – or even running their own business.


Outstanding Contribution to Farming

An award recognising an individual based in the South West, who has but the local area on the map through inspiration, energy, imagination and the use of local ingredients.
